Revision Surgery

Revision Surgery

These revision procedures, characterized by their corrective nature, aim to refine the initial surgical outcomes or adapt to changing health circumstances. Whether it's transforming a gastric sleeve into a mini or full bypass to enhance weight loss, transitioning from a lap band to a gastric sleeve, or to a gastric bypass for improved results, each revision serves as a testament to the evolving landscape of medical solutions in response to patient needs. In this exploration, we delve into the distinct types of revision surgeries within the realm of bariatrics, shedding light on their purposes, procedures, and potential benefits for individuals seeking renewed paths to well-being.

GASTRIC SLEEVE TO BYPASS (RNY or Mini)

Surgical procedure that is sometimes considered for patients who have undergone gastric sleeve surgery but did not achieve sufficient weight loss or experienced weight regain, or for those who develop new medical issues after the initial surgery. This revision surgery involves converting the gastric sleeve into a gastric bypass to enhance weight loss and address certain health concerns.

LAP BAND TO GASTRIC SLEEVE

Is a type of bariatric surgery that is considered when the lap band (adjustable gastric banding) has not provided the desired weight loss or has caused complications that require removal of the band. The revision involves removing the lap band and converting the stomach into a sleeve-shape by removing a large portion of the stomach. The remaining stomach is stapled and sealed to create the sleeve.

LAP BAND TO GASTRIC BYPASS (RNY or Mini)

Is a type of bariatric surgery that is considered when lap band (adjustable gastric banding) has not provided the desired weight loss or has caused complications that require removal of the band. The revision involves removing the lap band and then creates a small stomach pouch at the top of the stomach, similar to the one created in the initial gastric bypass surgery. Then, a portion of the small intestine is rerouted and connected to the newly created stomach pouch.
